We call it Kickin' Good Time Music. Scratchy Groovegrass with a flair of momentary brilliance every song or two. Basically, Jack and Karri started JBM in 2005 with a few friends and really just wanted to have a solid base of people to play with on their front porch in Old Town. But as playing a lot will do... we started getting pretty good and somebody had the grand idea to get ourselves out if front of other living beings that may like to hear it too. Today the band consists of Bass player, Mark "Tennessee" Viar who was/is an electric and acoustic bass player but we convinced him that he needed to play a giant, upright bass to really make the sound we wanted. So, his wife went out and bought him one for his birthday and lo'and behold he took to that thing like a new girlfriend. (Thanks Julie!) Soon after, we found our tastes drifting more and more towards the Old Timey Garage Groove and we found our missing link in Ken Sager who plays rippin' Mandolin, Tenor Banjo, Guitar and most recently the Dobro. Ken is a great addition to our band and we are elated to have him on board. Recently Tennessee brought over this crazy guy named Rod Riley who lives a town or two over and makes a trek out to Nashville every two weeks or so to work as a studio musician. Rod kicks some serious ASS on the Dobro and Guitar and we are still in shock that he is even in our band! And as for Karri and Jack, well, Jack plays the guitar and sings..has been doing this since his college days in Vermont and Conn. and when he and Karri met, he was basically doing Apres Ski gigs at the Park City Resort, playing rugby and working in a ski shop... typical ski bum. Now he manages all of those ski shops and still has time to play. Karri comes from a somewhat musical family. Her grandfather played upright bass with the big bands like Glen Miller in New York. Her dad passed up three music scholarships to fly planes in the Marines and also played in the Marine Corps band in the late 50's. Karri played all kinds of instruments as a kid. However, living in the mountains of Park City didn't offer much in the way of music lessons, period...but skiing every day was very easy to do. So, Karri became a ski racer instead and held off of her love of music until her mid 30's... marriage and 3 kids made their way in there somewhere too. So, at the age of 35 she started playing the violin and later she picked up the open back banjo. Since Jack was the only singer in the band, she was also forced to enter the world of standing in front of microphone which has been enlightening and terrifying. But I think she has the hang of it now. So, that's the story, so far. Hope you like the songs.
